Studying in Austria Without IELTS: How It Really Works
“Without IELTS” does not mean without proof of English. Austrian universities still ask for English skills, usually at level B2 or C1, for English-taught programmes. You can often use another document instead of an IELTS score. Each university sets its own rules, so always check the programme page.
Example: University of Vienna
The University of Vienna accepts several non-IELTS proofs. For level B2, these include:
- A full-time degree of at least two years taught entirely in English, from a university in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
- A school leaving certificate with a passed English exam from one of those countries, or an IB diploma with English.
- TOEFL iBT with 94 points or more, or a Cambridge FCE or CAE at level B2.
Test certificates must be no older than three years. Diploma-based proofs do not expire. Note that an English-medium degree from a country not on this list may not be accepted by this university.
